General Elections in Bihar are scheduled to happen in 7 phases from April 11th to 19th May. The NDA led state has BJP, Congress, and Left Front as major players. Bihar has a total of 40 Lok Sabha seats of which NDA holds 30 and UPA holds 10. BJP had won 22 seats in the 2014 elections, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) won 6 seats, RLSP won 3, Janata Dal United (JD(U)) won 2, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) won 4, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) won 1, and Indian National Congress (INC) won 2. BJP, LJP, and RLSP were in NDA alliance in 2014 and INC and RJD were in UPA.
In 2019 a grand alliance with the name “Mahagathbandhan” has been formed between Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Indian National Congress (INC), Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP), Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), Vikassheel Insan Party (VIP), and Communist Party of India (Marxist Lenin) (CPI M-L) to take on the NDA. The NDA comprises of an alliance between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal United (JD(U)), and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP).
For the 40 seats, NDA alliances BJP and JD(U) are contesting in 17 constituencies each, and LJP is contesting in 6 constituencies on seat sharing basis. UPA alliances RJD is contesting in 19 seats, INC is contesting in 9, RLSP in 5, HAM in 3, VIP in 3, CPI (M-L) in 1. Of the Left parties, CPI (M-L) is contesting in 4 seats, CPI in 1, and CPI (M) in 1.
Both BJP and INC parties are tenaciously campaigning in Bihar. The formation of a grand alliance between the opposition parties is proof of this rigorous campaigning. Though a slight dissatisfaction was initially observed between RJD and INC it was stated by the party leaders that the issue had been resolved. Some displeasure still exists among both the party leaders in regions like Supaul, Madhepura, Madhubani where each party has its own contestants and are unwilling to provide support to one another.
Despite all these, the seat-sharing process went along and first phase elections in Aurangabad, Gaya, Nawada, Jamui, were completed peacefully. The second phase elections are scheduled on 18th April, in Kishanganj, Katihar, Purnia, Bhagalpur, and Banka. The third phase involves regions of Jhanjharpur, Surpaul, Araria, Madhepura, and Khagaria, and are scheduled on April 23rd. The fourth phase elections are scheduled on April 29th in the regions of Darbhanga, Ujairpur, Samstipur, Begusarai, and Munger. The fifth phase is on the 6th of May, in Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Saran, and Hajipur.
The sixth and seven phases scheduled on 12th and 19th of May involve more districts like Valmiki Nagar, Paschim, Champaran, Purvi Champaran, Sheohar, Vaishali, Gopalganj, Siwan, and Maharajganj, and Nalanda, Patna Sahib, Pataliputra, Arrah, Buxar, Sasaram, Kurakat, and Jahanabad respectively.
The results for entire Indian General Elections will be announced on 23rd of May. You can watch the regular Updates of Bihar Lok Sabha Elections News online on YuppTV from all over the world.
