ICAI issued a notification on October 13, 2020, announcing that aspirants can also become a CA after the 10th class. Also, this is essential information for candidates opting for commerce stream after 10th and thinking about CA course after 10th.

The clause that permits the aspirants to enroll for CA after the ICAI summed up 10th as, “The Competent Authority has conveyed its approval on the ICAI proposal for amending the Regulations 25E, 25F & 28F of Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988 which now enables the candidate to provisionally register in the Foundation Course of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) after passing Class X examinations.”

Further, students can take a provisional admission for CA Foundation after the 10th class as per the new norms. Also, the new rules will take 6 months from the present time to become Chartered Accountant.

CA after 10th – Eligibility Criteria

Following is the eligibility criteria if you want to enroll for CA after the 10th:

  1. The candidates who have clear class 10th exams conducted by any examining body constituted by law in India or an examination recognized by the Central Government or the State Government as equivalent thereto may provisionally register in ICAI CA Foundation Course.
  2. Eligibility Criteria for appearing in Foundation Examination is as under:-
    1. (a) candidates have to enroll with the Institute of Board of Studies on or before 1st day of January or 1st day of July for the examination to be held in the months of May/June or November/December, respectively. Otherwise, 4 months study period is required before appearing in Foundation Examination.
    2. (b) Student should have appeared in the Senior Secondary Examination conducted by an examining body constituted by law in India or an examination recognized by the Central Government (or the State Government) as equivalent thereto (for admission to graduation course)

Additionally, given below are also points for registering under CA after 10th are :

  • Aspirants should have passed the 10th class exam and now appearing for either 11th or 12th standard.
  • For appearing in May/June exam sessions, you need to enroll on or before the 1st January of that year.
  • And for the examination of November/December sessions, one has to enroll by July 1st of that year.
  • In simple words, CA foundation aspirants get at least 4 months’ time between enrolling and appearing for exams.
  • Also, the students must have registered for the class 12th (10+2) exams.

Details of Registration Procedure for 10th Pass Students

Mentioned below are the details of CA foundation registration after passing class 10th are:-

To register with the CA foundation, the first thing to note is that the registration opens only twice a year before 1st January or 1st July.

Earlier, the stipulations for provisional enrollment in CA Foundation were:

  • Only the candidates who are appearing for 12th class exams were eligible to do registration provisionally.
  • Also, the aspirants would enroll for the course only after completing 4 months study duration after registration..

Together with the above-mentioned situations, any candidate of 12th class had to

  • finish the exams of class 12th in the session of March-April, 
  • CA Foundation enrolment in May month, 
  • and appear for the November examinations.

With the commencement of this new amendment, aspirants can finish the CA foundation level much earlier. Now the question is – How? After passing 10th class examinations, candidates get to enroll at the CA foundation level.

Also, the candidate needs to complete the study period of 4 months during the 11th or 12th. Simply means, students can complement the CA foundation exam preparation with senior studies.

With this amendment in the provisional registration, 

  • First, aspirants don’t need to complete the 12th class exams and then take additional 4 months for the CA Foundation. 
  • Second, students have to register for CA foundation course earlier.
  • Last, candidates can emerge in March for the 12th exams and in May for  CA Foundation exams. 

CA Course Details for 10th Pass Student

Here are the CA course details, and it comprises 4 levels explained below:-

  • CA Foundation level
  • Intermediate level
  • Articleship / Practical Training
  • CA Final

#1 CA Foundation level – It has 4 subjects each of 100 marks. Also, in total 400 marks out of which aspirants need to score 50% marks.
